About ATS Tsunami Atlas

ATS Tsunami Atlas puts the world's historical tsunami record on one map: 3,135 events reaching back to 2100 BC, drawn live from the NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information. Sources are coloured by what set the wave in motion — earthquake, volcano, landslide, meteorological — and sized by the highest water the event reached. Select an event and the atlas fetches its run-ups, the individual measurements of how far up the shore the water climbed: 6,429 of them for the 2011 Tohoku tsunami alone. Arcs connect the source to the tallest run-ups, so a single rupture can be seen reaching across an entire ocean, and a 3D globe shows the same story on real terrain.
